In the 1990s, Dr. Guillonneau and colleagues in Paris developed the modern technique of laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and pioneered the development of robotic assistance for complex laparoscopic procedures. Dr. Guillonneau joined the faculty of MSKCC in 2002 to lead the Section of Minimally Invasive Urology and was entitled professor of urology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Since 2011, he chairs the department of urology at the Deaconesses-Croix St Simon Hospital, in Paris. His research is focused on improvements of surgical treatments of prostate cancer and the understanding of the role of surgery in a multidisciplinary approach.
